About OptoSigma
OptoSigma is a leading provider of optical components, opto-mechanics, systems, and solutions for research, development, and manufacturing applications. We specialize in providing high-quality products to various industries, including semiconductors, aerospace, defense, and more. We are committed to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
Our teams design and build everything from single optical elements to complex multi-element assemblies and systems, working alongside in-house optical, mechanical, systems, electrical, and software engineers. Precision, quality, and hands-on craftsmanship are central to how we work.
About the Role
We're looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to develop, improve, and support the processes used to build precision opto-mechanical assemblies and components. This person will work closely with production, quality, and design engineering teams to drive efficiency, yield, and repeatability across the manufacturing floor. We're looking for someone energetic and eager to jump into a wide variety of projects, bringing enthusiasm to solving new problems as they come up.
What You'll Do
- Develop and document manufacturing processes, work instructions, and fixtures/tooling for precision assembly operations.
- Lead root-cause investigations for process-related quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support capacity planning, line balancing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Design, specify, and implement jigs, fixtures, and tooling to improve build consistency and throughput.
- Collaborate with Quality to establish and refine inspection criteria and process controls.
- Train and support production staff on new or updated processes.
- Partner with design engineering to ensure new products are designed for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
- Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, yield losses, and opportunities for process improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related field with 5+ years of directly relevant experience.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or assembly operations in a precision, electro-mechanical, or similar industry.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, floor-based approach to process improvement.
- Familiarity with reading engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and management/creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Comfortable working directly with production technicians and cross-functional teams.
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and root cause analysis tools (5 Why, fishbone, etc.).
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience in optics, photonics, or precision instrument manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with fixture/tooling design and basic CAD.
