Manual Actuators

Manual actuators are the mechanical interface situated between your hand and the stage or mount you are aligning.  Essentially all manual stages and mounts have some type of manual actuator. They convert rotational motion into high-resolution linear motion by way of a helical thread.  Due to fine pitch threads, the resolution achievable with most manual actuators is easily in the range of 1 to 10 um.  With differential micrometers the resolution is even better, like 10X better. Manual actuators are available in several different types including familiar micrometers heads, adjustment screws, differential micrometers, digital micrometers, and vacuum compatible micrometers.  If one of our many catalog adjusters does not meet your requirements, send us a request for a custom one.

  • Fine-pitch Screw Adjusters

    Description

    OptoSigma Fine Pitch Screw Adjusters are offered as a replacement or in place of our standard micrometers. The precision screws are turned from high grade stainless steel and are supplied with a matching brass nut designed to fit our stages and mirror mounts. They are lockable by means of a set screw on the nut using an Allen wrench. The M6.25 screws are designed to drive OptoSigma’s 40mm, 60mm, and 65mm stages. The M4-P0.25 screws are designed for use with the 25 mm stages.

  • Standard Micrometer Heads

    Description

    OptoSigma's standard micrometer heads provide exceptional high-resolution adjustment as well as enduring durability.  Micrometers differ from adjustment screws in that the position is readable.  Options include short travel micrometer heads with ranges between 6 and 13 mm as well as longer range versions with ranges from 25 to 50 mm.  These micrometer adjusters are made with industry standard specifications including the 500-micrometer thread pitch and shank diameters like 6, 9.5, 10 and 12 mm.  Remember that the thread pitch of an adjustment screw indicates the linear travel for one full rotation of the knob. This means that standard micrometers travel 1/2 a millimeter for a full knob rotation.  The micrometers have graduated marked where the smallest distance is 10 micrometers.  All have flat-tip spindles which require a centered ball tip push point, as found on all of our translation stages.  

  • Right-Angle Micrometer Heads

    Description

    OptoSigma right-angle micrometers are unique. They can be used in place of standard micrometers on our manual stages to enable top or angled adjustments. They incorporate a 90-degree angle pivot mechanism. Please contact our application engineers to answer any questions about how these right-angle micrometers can be mounted and utilized on the stage of your choice, or, stand-alone in your application.

  • Digital Micrometer Heads

    Description

    Digital Micrometers are designed for applications where a digital numerical read out is needed for absolute position or for measuring differences between two or more positions. Two shank diameters are available: 10mm and 3/8 inch which are sized for mounting to our manual translation stages. Measurements can be made to 1 um readable resolution with +/- 2um accuracy. These micrometers feature a flat, non-rotating tip to eliminate radial torsion as well as a digital display with in./mm conversion.  These digital micrometers also have locks, a zeroing button, and a readout hold button.

  • Sub-micron Worm Drive Micrometer Heads

    Description

    OptoSigma’s Sub-Micron Worm Drive Micrometer provides superior alignment capability vs. conventional micrometers.  They are relatively low cost and offer much higher resolution. The resolution of the Sub-Micron micrometer is 0.5 micron for the entire 13mm of travel range. This micrometer can replace our standard micrometers to achieve higher sensitivity for any optical-mechanical devices. Replacing the micrometer is relatively easy.  Both Flat and Ball tips are available. 

  • Differential Adjustment Screws

    Description

    Our differential adjustment screws are exceptionally compact and combine the ability to translate over long distances and still provide the precision of an ultra-fine thread for the highest resolution motion.  The readable resolution is a quarter that of a standard micrometer; just 2.5 micrometers. Our differential adjustment screws have either ball or flat tips.  These cost effective adjusters are designed for integration into OEM or production test systems.

  • Differential Micrometer heads

    Description

    OptoSigma's differential micrometer offers resolution that is less than 1 micrometer but still provides 13 mm of range with 0.2 mm fine adjustability in a single micrometer. It uses the same mounting shank as our standard micrometers, so it can be used to upgrade our standard stages and mounts to provide much finer adjustment.
