Pre-selected mini-system kits
-
With and without rails
-
Supplied in a convenient carrying case
This system facilitates close stacking of components and the building of small scale optical systems assemblies. Holders are offered for 10mm and 15mm optics since these sizes lend themselves most effectively to diode and fiber systems. A system of mounts and rails permits the movement of components relative to each other.
The standard system is based on a metric hole pattern of M2 threaded holes on 10mm centers. This system provides for closer spacing than is possible with inch based systems. Metric screws, tools and adapters are offered here for use with the system.
The baseplates have a pattern of M2 holes but they also contain large clearance holes for mounting onto conventional larger scale inch or metric opto-mechanical systems. These mounting holes are clearance counter-bored for a 1/4-20 or M6 cap screw.
The mini-system is usually assembled on a baseplate of appropriate size. We offer a standard range of mini-baseplates which are suitable for most applications. The mounts can be assembled directly onto the mini-baseplate or by means of an optical mini-rail system. The mini-rails permit variations in the spacing of components for coarse adjustment. Component holders are mounted either directly on the mini-rail carriers or on mini-posts. Mini-stages or mini-preset stages (described on pages 298 and 349) can be interspersed in order to provide precise mechanical positioning. The entire system is based on a 30mm center height which can be increased in 10mm increments. Spacers of 5, 10 or 15mm thickness can be supplied in order to maintain the correct center height. This compensation may be necessary, for example, when some components are missing.
You will find that this mini-system provides all the mechanical adjustment capabilities you require in a simple and compact system. The unique design permits easy access to the components without a complicated set of supports.
We offer these mini-system kits in order to simplify the selection of components. Each kit has a complete range of minisystem products ready for use. One kit has only base mounted components while the other has both bases and rails. Both are supplied in a convenient carrying case with cut-out foam to hold the items in place.
If you wish to specify your own components or add to the kit, you can select individual items from the pages referenced in the table below. The carrying case is also offered separately if you wish to make up your own kit.
Mini-Washers
Mini-washers are used to allow the mounting of the larger clearance holes and M6 to M4 mounting holes. The washers have top-hat structure that assures a precise location of the screws.

Range of adapters for Glan polarizers
The most common requirement for polarizers is to rotate them about the optical axis. Sometimes it is only necessary to set them at the correct orientation but in some applications it is necessary to rotate the polarizer during use.
Our polarizer holders are available in two configurations. Micrometer driven polarizer holders offer high precision adjustment for the most demanding polarization rotation applications. The micrometer drive version provides continuous 360 degree coarse adjustment and 10 degrees of fine micrometer adjustment. Lever type polarizer rotators are suitable for less precise applications. Simply grasp the lever protruding from the side of the holder to rotate and set the polarizer angle, while maintaining the axis on the optical centerline. Once in place the angle can be locked by using the clamp screw.
Both types of holders are offered for 20, 30 and 50mm diameter polarizers or waveplates. Adapters are available for most common mica and calcite polarizers. The base of the holders are threaded 8-32 or M4 for use with our post and post holder or pedestal base mounting systems.

-
Tip-tilt adjustment built in
-
2-axis and 3-axis versions
-
Prism clamps included
-
Can be post mounted
-
Three sizes cover most commonly used prisms
Prisms and cube beamsplitters need to be openly mounted so that the entrance and exit beams can pass unimpeded. These prism tables provide a flat surface with either two or three axes of tilt adjustment built in. The prism can be placed on top of the table and secured by means of a spring clamp. Thumb-wheels protruding from the side of the table are used to adjust the tilt of the table over a range of 4 degrees. The third-axis, when present, is adjusted over a range of 6 degrees by means of a knob protruding from the side.
The base of the tables are threaded 8-32 or M4 for inch or metric post mounting. Alternatively, they can be mounted directly onto a base plate or a stage by using the two clearance holes provided.
Retro-reflector Holders
-
Simple to align and hold
-
For most common size retro-reflectors
-
Can be post or direct mounted
Retro-reflectors are some of the most difficult components to support and align. With the face perpendicular to the optical axis there is no clear reference surface. These holders make it simple to hold and align retro-reflectors. Once mounted in these rings they may be treated like any other component. Individual holders are offered for each of the most common diameters. The base of the holders are threaded 8-32 or M4 for inch or metric post or pedestal base mounting.

Spatial Filter
-
Precise X-Y-Z alignment
-
Accepts a range of pinholes and microscope objectives
-
Slotted base for mounting onto optical breadboards
In order to transmit only the fundamental Gaussian output of a laser it is common practice to spatially filter the beam. The beam is focused onto a pinhole and then allowed to diverge or be recollimated. This spatial filter has built in X, Y motion on the pinhole mount and Z motion on the focusing objective. Pinholes in 16mm mounts are accepted as well as all standard microscope objectives. These must be ordered separately. The base has two slots for 1/4-20 or M6 screws which permit mounting onto a base with two inch or 50mm separation of mounting holes.
Three-Axis Optical Mounts
-
Lockable 3-axis optical positioning
-
High resolution 100-pitch adjustment screws
-
Optional baseplates for slotted hole mounting
For the ultimate in three-axis positioning of lenses and other optics, our three-axis optical positioners provide stable XYZ adjustment. The three independent axes allow you to control the positioning an optic in any plane along each orthogonal axis.
XY translation is accomplished with a high resolution 100-pitch thumb screw. Positioning along the optical axis or Z direction is non-rotational by use of a zoom lever attached to the mount housing. The positioning mechanisms in all three linear axes are lockable to secure your optics position once alignment has been achieved.
We offer three-axis mounts to hold 1/2 inch, 1 inch and 2 inch optics. In addition, adapters may be purchased to mount optics of different diameters. All mounts have inch or metric threaded holes on the bottom to accommodate our post and post holder mounting system. Optional baseplates are offered to provide convenient slotted hole mounting configurations.
Variable Neutral Density Filter Wheels
-
Convenient for adjustment of beam intensity
-
Optical density from 0.4 - 2.7
-
2-inch and 4-inch diameters
-
May be post mounted
Neutral density filter wheels are convenient tools for the adjustment of beam intensity. They can be mounted in an optical path and rotated to increase or decrease the beam attenuation. Since the filter coating is neutral over the visible spectrum no change of spectral content will occur. The filters have a 0.04 - 2.7 variation in optical density over 330 degrees of rotation so they can be used to balance signal strength over a wide dynamic range (10,000:1). The outer metal ring is grasped and rotated by hand to set the density level. A clamp screw enables the rotation to be locked at any point. The central boss has three different threaded holes (8-32, M4 and M6) to accommodate post or pedestal mounting for both inch and metric mounting systems. Two types of discs are offered - BK7 and synthetic fused silica. The two sizes offered cover most applications.
X-Y Lens Holders
-
Holds lenses securely in place
-
Permits X-Y adjustment of the optical axis
-
To suit 20mm, 1inch, 30mm and 2-inch lenses
Lenses may be mounted directly into these holders by means of the retaining ring provided. The optical axis is easily adjusted in two axes by means of the fine pitch, 50TPI (0.5mm) adjusting screws which protrude from the side of the holder. These adjusters operate against a springloaded plunger which will retain the lens in position, once set. The holders may be attached to a post or pedestal base by means of an 8-32 or M4 screw.
