Kinematic bases use three balls which locate against a flat, a cone and a vee groove. This method of mounting ensures precise positional replacement of the base. The lower plate may be attached to a standard breadboard hole pattern and the top plate will accept stages or other mounts. By using a number of separate top-plates it is possible to exchange samples with a high degree of precision. The thumbwheel protruding from the bottom plate is used to secure the top plate in position.
